Plans to build a BBQ Smoker

These plans will give you an idea how to build a bbq rotisserie style smoker using two large 55 gallon drum steel barrels.

Build Tools:

* saber saw
* drill
* metal shears
* air grinder
* screw drivers
* socket wrenches
* 2 55 gallon steel drum barrels

Instructions for building:

  1. Start by using one of the rotisserie steel barrels to cut out to install a fire box door.
  2. Then attach your legs and lower collars to the bottom barrel.
  3. Attach wheels to your legs to make your bbq smoker more mobile.
  4. Cut out a smoker vent in the top barrel then install your top legs and cut the barrel in half to open and close using saber saw.
  5. Bolt the cedar handle and temperature gauge to the top lid.
  6. Bolt a platform to front of bbq grill and attach cedar shelf below lid opening on top barrel.
  7. Insert your fire bricks and grill grids into top barrel. You may need to form two sets of iron grids together depending on sizes available.
  8. Build your Grids to yield a 22″ by 30″ cooking surface.

Additional Tips

* always use food grade steel barrels for building your bbq smoker
* wash barrels at car wash and hose out again just before using
* purchase a smoker grill conversion kit to help you prep your drums for grilling
